Symptoms of the cold are more common, and can make the patient miserable for three to five days. A patient usually has a stuffy nose, congestion, some body aches and a growing cough.  According to the CDC seasonal flu and H1N1 symptoms consist of fever, more painful body aches, dry cough, diarrhea and severe fatigue. It’s hard, without testing, to tell apart the seasonal strain of flu from the H1N1 variety. 

It is very difficult to distinguish the flu from other infections on the basis of symptoms alone. A doctor’s exam may be needed to tell whether you have developed the flu or a complication of the flu. There are tests that can determine if you have the flu as long you are tested within the first 2 or 3 days of illness.

From snow to ice to a lot of cold air, the Lowcountry deals with the latest blast of cold weather.

It’s a cold start today but temperatures will warm into the 50’s by this afternoon. Clouds and some rain are possible by this weekend.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for portions of the Lowcountry Tuesday as light accumulations of snow is possible across the area. 

Areas of light snow are possible today under mostly cloudy skies.  Very cold air will settle into the Lowcountry once again today and tonight.

Snow is expected across portions of the area on Tuesday with accumulations possible in some areas.  A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Williamsburg, Orangeburg, Berkeley, Dorchester counties, as well as inland sections of Colleton county.

A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect for a large portion of the area as snow will become likely for inland areas by Tuesday morning.

Dense fog will hang around through 9AM with a mix of sun and clouds after the fog burns off.  Some light snow is possible tonight and Tuesday, but no major winter weather problems are expected at this time.

Winter Storm Watches and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for portions of the Carolinas as snow is possible late tonight and Tuesday.
