Two career criminals, crossing state lines, and accused of committing serious crimes in South Carolina:  Is there a problem with the parole system in North Carolina?

On the outside, the annual Peach Festival Parade looked like ones in years past. But once the police and sheriff’s cars came through, you could tell it was different.

A kidnapping suspect with a long criminal history has been shot and a Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputy wounded after a shootout in Cherokee County Saturday morning.

Although it could take months before they get the results they do believe it will further prove Patrick Burris is the killer.

Investigators don’t know if the most recent killing is related to three other fatal shootings within 10 miles of each other in the past six days.  Authorities say the other three murders are connected.

Officials are investigating the shooting deaths of two women not far from where a prominent South Carolina peach farmer was killed last week. Multiple media outlets reported the women were found Wednesday at a Cherokee County home.

South Carolina State will not be hosting the Low Country Classis in Charleston this year.  This comes while the State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the event.
