South Carolina’s high court is ordering Republican Gov. Mark Sanford to request $700 million in federal stimulus money that would head primarily to cash-strapped schools.

American International Group met a 4 pm deadline Thursday to turn over the names of employees who received controversial bonuses totaling $165 million to New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.  Read Cuomo’s statement.

Acting with lightning speed, the Democratic-led House has approved a bill to slap punishing taxes on big employee bonuses from firms bailed out by taxpayers.

The companies owe a total of more than $220 million in delinquent federal taxes.
