South Carolina’s top law enforcement agency is taking part in a weeklong academy that organizers hope will energize young people about safety.

The State Law Enforcement Division will participate Tuesday in the American Legion’s Nathan M. Wolfe Cadet Academy.

The academy for rising seniors ages 16 to 18 started Saturday at the Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia. On Tuesday, SLED agents will teach several dozen students about firearms safety, arson investigations, computer crimes and using bloodhounds to track suspects.

SLED Chief Reggie Lloyd says the academy is a great way to teach young people about the importance of protecting their communities.
