COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Columbia attorney Kevin Hall has withdrawn from the race to chair the South Carolina Republican Party.

The State newspaper reported Thursday that Hall said he needed treatment for a heart condition. The newspaper says he wrote supporters telling them he did not have a heart attack, but did treatment.

Outgoing chairman Katon Dawson said he would not seek re-election at the party’s convention May 16.

Hall’s decision leaves two Spartanburg residents seeking the post. One is former state Education Superintendent candidate Karen Floyd. The other is Spartanburg County GOP Chairman Rick Beltram.
