USC playing host to conference on women’s history

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The University of South Carolina is opening its doors to host the Eighth Southern Conference on Women’s History.
The three-day event begins Thursday and features women’s history scholars from across the U.S. and Europe.
Two black history experts will discuss women in the civil rights movement at a dinner lecture. A pre-conference symposium on Thursday will focus on the lives of women in the Palmetto State.
Other session topics include female religious leaders, teaching southern history outside the South and women in post-Civil War Appalachia. There also will be a women’s history tour of Columbia.
