Tree falls on car, killing the driver

Another round of strong storms left driver dead and some parts of the Upstate looking like a war zone.

The deadly accident happened around 11:30pm Tuesday night at U.S. Highway 221 South and the Highway 127 bypass in Laurens County.

Troopers told News Channel 7, a 1992 Pontiac was headed south on U.S. 221 when a tree came crashing down from the right side of the road on the sedan.

The driver was killed. The coroner’s office has not released the woman’s name.

On Hillbrook Road in Laurens County, some people could not get out of their neighborhoods because fallen trees blocked the only exits. The South Carolina
Highway Patrol reported over two dozen crashes and trees down in roads in Laurens County between 11:00 pm Tuesday and 4:00 am Wednesday, Duke Energy reported nearly 2,000 power outages.
