Scooting, hoping, two-legged pup set to get a wheelchair

He scoots along, and sometimes hops on just two legs.

Its the only way “Stitch” the chihuahua-terrier mix can get around.

He was born with just his hind legs.

The year-and-a-half old dog was brought to Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary in Jupiter, Florida, abused and needing a home.

Kay-Lynette Roca, the director of Safe Harbor, says the owner was, “worried with him missing legs that another facility would put him down.“

Although Stitch may look clumsy, he can really move.

“He usually hops around on his little hind legs like a little miniature kangaroo,“ Roca explains.

All of that hopping has veterinarians concerned that his hind legs will eventually be worn out.

That’s why soon he’ll be fitted for his very own wheelchair.

It’ll cost the already financial strapped shelter about $500, but Roca says, it’s worth the investment, explaining, “that’s what we do here.  We’re here for the neglected, the abused, the sick, the injured.“

With each hop, scoot, and proud pose, Stitch is not only melting some hearts but teaching us all a thing or two about differences, challenges and self-acceptance.

“I think he represents courage,“ Roca says.  “He’s got a great spirit about him.  He’s a happy little dog and I don’t think he realizes he’s missing two front legs.“
