Authorities say a wildfire has destroyed a home in South Carolina and prompted the evacuation of 50 people.

State Forestry Commission spokesman Scott Hawkins says the fire Wednesday has burned about 150 acres in Horry County and is about 25 percent under control. Winds out of the west gusting above 30 mph are fanning the flames.

Authorities have ordered evacuations for people in 30 homes in the Woodlawn subdivision off state Highway 90 about six miles east of Conway. A shelter has been opened at a nearby church.

Horry County Fire Rescue spokesman Todd Cartner says no one has been injured.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Oicials say smoke from the fire could significantly reduce visibility on U.S. 17 north of Myrtle Beach.
