A South Carolina man has been arrested after authorities say he called Gov. Mark Sanford’s office and threatened to kill him.

The State Law Enforcement Division says 39-year-old Brian Macdermant made the threat Wednesday to a member of Sanford’s staff.

SLED spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons says Macdermant didn’t give a specific reason for wanting to harm Sanford.

Macdermant has been charged with threatening the life of a public officials and faces up to five years in prison if convicted.

Authorities didn’t know if Macdermant had an attorney and there was no listing for his home on Hilton Head Island.
