A trade association for real estate agents says home sales across South Carolina have fallen 34 percent so far this year.

The report released Thursday by South Carolina Realtors also found houses are selling for less and staying on the market longer.

The median home price for homes sold in February 2009 was $135,000, down 8.3 percent from the same month in 2008. The average house for sale in South Carolina this year is on the market for 154 days.

There are a few bright spots in the report. Median home prices in Beaufort County, and along the Interstate 85 corridor except for Greenville, increased slightly this year.

The report says houses also are staying on the market for shorter periods along the southern and northern coasts.
