South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is betting his long fight against taking federal stimulus cash on a federal judge’s decisions.

Sanford spokesman Joel Sawyer said Thursday that three lawsuits involving efforts to force Sanford to seek $700 million in federal money for education should be handled in federal court because they will be dealt with faster.

Sawyer also says are questions about whether the Legislature can force the governor to act that a federal judge should decide.

U.S. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn of South Carolina has been a frequent Sanford critic on the stimulus issue. But Clyburn also said Thursday the federal court could speed a resolution.
