Ex-USC professor seeks Sudan presidency

A University of Missouri history professor is returning to his home country of Sudan to seek its presidency.
   
Abdullahi Ali Ibrahim left the African nation nearly 30 years ago to study in the United States. He returned briefly to teach in the capital city of Khartoum before joining the University of Missouri faculty in 1994.
   
A military dictator has ruled Sudan for the past 20 years. But Ibrahim is optimistic that international pressure and war crime sanctions over the genocide in Darfur will lead to a democratic election in February 2010.
   
Ibrahim came to the U.S. as a doctoral student in folklore and anthropology at Indiana University, later teaching at Northwestern University and University of South Carolina before coming to Missouri.
