Fleetwood Enterprises Inc., the parent company of Fleetwood Homes, said its pending closure of a North Carolina manufacturing plant will eliminate nearly 100 jobs.
The Riverside, Calif.-based company said in a statement that it will close several plants across the country within 60 days. The company makes recreational vehicles and manufactured homes.
The plant in Pembroke helps manufacture homes for the South Atlantic region, and the work will be relocated to plants in Georgia and Virginia.
Fleetwood Housing Group president Charley Lott said the manufactured housing industry is in its ninth year of decline and in the midst of its worst year in the last 50 years.
In the first six months of 2008, the company reported it lost more than $75 million.
