Authorities have identified a body found in a wooded area as a missing South Carolina woman whose car was discovered nearby.

Multiple media outlets reported Monday that Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger identified the body as 48-year-old Julia Ann Vess of Simpsonville.

Vess was last seen May 17. Officials have not said how she died.

Authorities say two men searching for hunting sites found the car in a heavily wooded area near Woodruff on Sunday. Deputies searched the area and found the body about a mile away.

Investigators say they cleared the woman’s husband, Larry Vess, in the disappearance last week, based on results of a lie detector test.
