The fall Harley-Davidson bike rally is under way along the Grand Strand, but there aren’t many motorcycle riders in Myrtle Beach itself.

Myrtle Beach is testing new rules designed to reduce the impact of motorcycle rallies that cause huge traffic and noise problems each May.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported the smaller fall ride started with a protest ride by bikers who avoided going into the city limits.

George Gordon at Jamin’ Leather says riders Wednesday were given printouts and T-shirts with a small map showing the route. The store’s Web site says the Ride Around the Beach was organized to show their unhappiness with the city’s new laws designed to curtail the rallies.

City spokesman Mark Kruea said he was unaware that anyone was protesting the city actions.
