Auto parts supplier Federal-Mogul Corp. plans to shut down SC plant

SUMMERTON, S.C. (AP) - Auto parts supplier Federal-Mogul Corp. is closing its plant in Summerton.
   
The Southfield, Michigan-based company announced Monday that the facility, which employs about 350 people, will close by the end of the year.
   
Officials in the small town of about 1,000 people say it’s the third area plant to close in about a month.
   
The company said in December that it would cut 10 percent of its work force, or about 4,600 jobs, because of the tough automotive market.
   
Summerton is about 75 miles southeast of Columbia.
