An Alabama man scheduled to die for murdering a police officer has cut himself with a razor and is in restraints as his execution approaches.
Thomas Treshawn Ivey is scheduled to die at 6 p.m. Friday for killing Tommy Harrison, a 38-year-old Orangeburg police sergeant.
Prison officials say Ivey removed a blade from a disposable razor and suffered non-life-threatening wounds when he cut himself on the neck. They’ve strapped im to a chair, where they plan to keep him until he is strapped down for a lethal injection.
An hour before the scheduled execution, the U.S. Supreme Court denied the 34-year-old Union Springs, Ala., man’s bid for it to be halted.
Ivey would be the 42nd person executed in South Carolina since 1976.
