73-year-old charged with killing 90-year-old wife

Authorities say a 73-year-old man has been charged with murder after he killed his 90-year-old wife in their Clover home, then tried to overdose on medicine.

York County Sheriff’s Capt. Jerry Hoffman told The Herald of Rock Hill that Mildred Hartner was shot Wednesday morning.

A few hours later, deputies say a friend checking on the couple found Gustave Hartner unconscious on the floor.

Hoffman says he survived his overdose attempt and is in a Rock Hill hospital.

Hoffman says the couple were suffering from medical problems.
