Enjoy some H2O audio next time you go swimming...
It's now possible to take your iPod into the water.Published: July 1, 2009
I first tried it years ago, make a case and headphones that lets you take your iPhone surfing. Now the iPods have gotten smaller, but the ideas have gotten bigger.
Kristian Rauhala, the CEO of H2O Audio says, “When we went surfing together we had headphones that were our first generation. We are at our third generation which is really in-ear headphones.“
Kristian Rauhala came up with the waterproof iPod idea while a student at San Diego State. Now, his H2O Audio business is making its way onto store shelves across the country.
“The sound quality is the same as your regular headphones,“ says Rauhala.
Originally the H2O audio was for divers and surfers, but now it’s all about swimming.
“Just like on a treadmill you listen to music, we bring the music to your pool,“ says Rauhala
Olympic Gold Medal winner Natalie Coughlin is a fan.
She says, “You would think that the music would make you distracted. It just enhances the workout more than anything.“
H2O Audio has also brought on some big time endorsements from Olympic Gold Medalists Natalie Coughlin and Michael Phelps to surfer Laird Hamilton. Coughlin says listening to music under the water makes sense.
“They’ll get used to swimming with their music to the point where they won’t know what to do without it,“ she says.
And that’s what the folks at H2O would like, where a swim includes your bathing suit, your goggles, and your music.
Rauhala says, “We believe that we are changing swimming for everybody.“
