Trident Literacy Association has a lot more money tonight but it is only enough money to get them through the end of this year.  More than 150 thousand dollars have come from private donations.
Trident Literacy brings attention to the crisis of illiteracy in the Tri-county community, but the private agency took at hit recently when state and federal grants were cut and private contributions dried up. With more than 2400 young and senior adult using their services annually the agency was in danger of having to close it’s downtown and Summerville locations. A surge of news reports and interviews have increased the publics awareness of the crisis which resulted in donatreions.  Trident Lliteracy is still asking for financial and volunteer assistance to assure opeation next year, according to Moniz.
