2 Cents - Communion

This is a tough one. I am not here to question anyone’s beliefs. However, one of the leading stories on many news networks is a very controversial report about a sc priest who told his parishioners they should refrain from taking Holy Communion if they voted for Barack Obama because the democratic president elect is pro choice…

Reverend Jay Scott Newman of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville distributed a letter to parishioners telling them that they are “putting their souls at risk if they take Holy Communion before doing penance for their vote”

This just seems wrong. I respect the Catholic Church and I am against abortion but, he is telling his parishioners that they should be one issue voters. In other words ignore the complete package. In my opinion there are many very important issues affecting our Country. The economy, the war on terrorism, healthcare, energy, abortion, stem cell research, the death penalty, etc. Every one of these issues affects Human lives and every one is very complicated.

You should make your voting choices based on who think can best address all these issues. I do not believe anyone should compromise on moral issues and Biblical teachings. I do believe however that there are a lot of very good people out their who voted for Barack Obama because they believe he is the best person for the job

The taking of Communion is a whole other issue. It certainly doesn’t seem like it should be based on whether or not you voted Republican or Democrat.

I’m Rick Lipps and that’s my two cents.
