2 Cents - Abuse Pictures

On Wednesday, President Obama changed his mind on a big decision. He now says he’ll fight to prevent the release of photographs that show american military people abusing prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The ACLU is suing to get those pictures released. Look, i believe in open government. We have a right to see what our government’s doing… and that includes the military. With exceptions. national security is one. And I think this is another. Releasing these photos is not going to add much to what we already know happened at places like abu graib.

I saw those pictures. I get it.  So i don’t buy the criticism that the president is now part of the cover up. The president is being a leader, not a politician. If we put more of these pictures out there, it’s going to incite further anti-american feeling… and put the lives of our military people at increased risk. I don’t want a soldier to die because we had to see more pictures just likes ones we saw 5 years ago.

The questions we need answered are… is the abuse still going on? And i pray it’s not. and have we taken the proper steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again? I know a picture is worth a thousand words, but in this case, Obama got it right, it’s not worth risking an American life.

I’m rick Lipps and that’s my two cents.
