No Decisions on Military Commissions
Published: June 6, 2009
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says no decisions have been made regarding U.S. military commissions that would try Guantanamo Bay detainees.
Gibbs says President Barack Obama has made clear he hopes to work with Republicans and Democrats in Congress on improving the military commissions act so that “swift and certain justice” will
result.
The New York Times is reporting that the administration is considering a plan that would let Guantanamo detainees facing the death penalty plead guilty without a full trial.
The paper says this option would principally be aimed at a group of detainees accused of planning the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.
