Lawmakers set to vote on war spending bill

WASHINGTON (AP) - The House is set to vote today on a $106 billion spending bill to pay for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Key Democrats say the vote is likely to be close. Anti-war lawmakers say their constituents oppose the wars and don’t want to provide any money. Meanwhile, Republicans are not pleased that the bill includes $5 billion to help the International Monetary Fund increase its lending capacity.
There’s also $1 billion included for the so-called cash-for-clunkers program, $7 billion to fight the flu, and $10 billion in foreign aid.
The House bill does not include a Senate provision that would have barred the release of photos showing the mistreatment of detainees, and that also could cost votes too.
Still, members of both parties say they could end up supporting the measure. Democrats say they want to support their leadership, while a Republican notes he’s always supported the troops.
