Congress mulls more bailout changes
Published: November 13, 2008
Congress is mulling over the possibility of more changes in the $700 billion financial rescue program in light of the deteriorating economy and soaring mortgage foreclosures.
But the debate may not be resolved until President-elect Obama takes office on Jan. 20.
Congress will hold hearings today to examine aspects of the crisis.
This morning, the House Oversight Committee will look at the role that hedge funds may have played.
And, the Senate Banking Committee will hear from top financial executives on how well the government’s rescue program is operating.
Also today, more reports detailing the difficulties facing the economy are expected with the Labor Department’s weekly unemployment figures, the Commerce Department’s report on the trade gap for September and the government’s report on the budget deficit for October.
