Alaska governor Sarah Palin says the future of the Republican Party is in its past.

Fresh from her failed vice-presidential bid, Palin was still the star at the Republican governors meeting in Miami Thursday.

The GOP is looking to Palin’s celebrity to announce the party is up for an extreme makeover after last week’s crushing defeat.

A late add for a keynote to the GOP governor gathering, Palin implored Republicans to look to the past only to remember the way the party used to be.

“Let us reclaim our good name as the party of spending restraint and limited government,“ she urged her fellow governors.

Palin has refused to rule out a presidential bid in 2012, and just might try to go after the Senate seat that may be vacated soon by convicted Senator Ted Stevens, also of Alaska.
