Questions have been swirling since a California woman gave birth to octuplets late last month.
On the Today Show Friday morning NBC’s Ann Curry sat down for an exclusive interview with the woman who is now a mother to fourteen children.
All I wanted was children, I wanted to be a mom, it’s all I ever wanted in my life,” said Nadya Suleman.
Nadya Suleman got that wish, times fourteen.
Since giving birth to octuplets more than a week ago the 33 year old single mother has been blasted because she already had six children when she had all her remaining embryos implanted.
Ann Curry asked Suleman, “You didn’t just want one or two embryos?“
Suleman replied, “Of course not, I wanted them all transferred. Those are my children and that was what was available and I used them. I took a risk. A gamble. It always is. “
When the Chukwus of Texas had octuplets they received donations- formula, a lifetime of diapers, even a new house.
But so far, donations for Suleman, who has no job and lives in this house with her parents, aren’t pouring in
“I think they are afraid of the backlash because of the situation,” said Donny Deutsch, Chairman of Deutsch Incorporated.
According to government figures, the cost of raising 14 children can be up to 2.7 million
Suleman says once she is done with schooling she will be able to provide. In the meantime…
“I am providing myself to my children. I am loving them unconditionally, accepting them unconditionally everything I do I will stop my life for them,“ Suleman said.
A life now under intense scrutiny.
