NAACP outraged over Confederate flag in Florida Vets Day parade

It’s a symbol of history, but also of hate.

Some 150 years after the Civil War, the confederate flag is still stirring emotions and South Florida is no exception.

The city of Homestead is at the center of a controversial bout over the confederate flag and the NAACP is threatening serious action.

The Miami-Dade chapter of the NAACP is protesting the use of a confederate flag that a group, reportedly the sons of confederate veterans, marched along a parade route last November during an annual Veteran’s Day parade.

The Mayor of Homestead, Linda Bell, said the city may have hosted the parade, but it was the Chamber of Commerce that organized it.

A spokesperson for the Chamber of Commerce said they could not ask the group not to fly the flag because it is their legal right to do so.
