Moms hold breast-feeding protest at a Florida restaurant

A breast-feeding Florida woman is upset after a restaurant manager told her to cover up.

So nursing mothers staged a protest at the same restaurant today.

It could’ve been a bitter battle: A breast feeding mom, told to cover up despite the law which says she has every right to breast feed in public.

But the event today meant as a sort of nurse-in protest ended up to be more of a lesson for how to settle disagreements.

“It’s been everything I wanted and more. Chick-fil-A’s been awesome in welcoming education and breast feeding moms,“ said participant Chylain Krivensky.

Plenty has changed since Krivensky first talked to a Chick-fil-A manager on Tuesday in Winter Park.

“I was nursing my daughter and she asked me to cover up, and I was so shocked, I didn’t know what to say.“

The manager handed her a towel, responding to a customer complaint, but the law was on the side of the nursing mom.

She fired off letters to the Chick-fil-A’s General Manager and Corporate Headquarters.

They realized the law’s on her side.

And they also realized their staff needed a lesson.

Today’s “nurse-in”, a gathering of nursing mothers, was the restaurant’s idea.

Chick-fil-A actually offered to pay for many of the lunches, but most of the people refused, saying this wasn’t about getting a free meal, it was about increasing the education about breast feeding.

“They are taking this and educating Chick-fil-A corporate about protecting the rights of breast feeding women,“ added Krivensky.

“It means that a lot of others are willing to stand up for what they believe in,“ said participant Rosie Rodriguez.

As Krivesnky explains, “We came out as a peaceful protest and there are breast feeding women in our community and we’re protected by the law.“
