Former Secret Service agent to lead stimulus oversight

President Barack Obama plans to announce Monday that he’s appointing a former Secret Service agent to oversee the $787 billion economic stimulus plan.
An administration official says Obama is set to name Earl Devaney as chairman of the new Recovery Act Transparency and Accountability Board. Devaney, the inspector general of the Interior Department, helped expose disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff’s dealings at the department.
Obama also plans to tap Vice President Joe Biden to meet regularly with Cabinet members, governors and mayors to make sure their efforts relating to the stimulus are quick and effective. Biden’s reports to Obama are expected to be posted at the administration Web site devoted to the bill, Recovery.gov.
