An Orange County, Florida man is accused of renting out a house that he didn’t own.
Paul Mosher, 60, of Melbourne is charged with scheming to defraud and other charges, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.
A woman told detectives she agreed to rent a home in Waterford Lakes from Mosher for $750 a month.
“He told me the owner wanted to rent the house, because it was in foreclosure,“ said the woman, who asked not to be identified.
She said she paid Mosher first and last month’s rent.
But detectives say Mosher didn’t own the house or have the right to rent it out.
The real owner lives in Virginia and is allowing the woman to stay in the home for free for another month.
Mosher was arrested on Friday when he came to collect the April rent.
He is being held in Orange County Jail on $5,300 bond on charges of scheming to defraud, burglary of a dwelling, and grand theft.
