Hillary Clinton says she’ll reinvigorate U.S. leadership through a “smart power” mix of diplomacy and defense.
In remarks she’s delivering Tuesday at her Senate confirmation hearing, President-elect Barack Obama’s choice to be secretary of state is promising to push for more U.S. partnerships around the globe.
Clinton says while America can’t solve the world’s most pressing problems by itself, the world can’t solve them without help from the U.S. She adds, “American leadership has been wanting, but is still wanted.“
Clinton appears likely to sail through Tuesday’s hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, though some lawmakers are concerned the global fundraising of her husband could pose ethical
conflicts.
