Death toll rises in Georgia floods

Parts of Georgia have been covered by water and at least 8 are dead following massive flooding.

Georgia’s governor has declared a state of emergency in the 17 counties hardest hit by flooding from severe weather.

“This is the highest water that I’ve seen, and i’ve been living around here all my life,“ said one resident.

Roadways and homes are submerged, making getting around by car or foot nearly impossible in parts of Georgia.

The massive flooding caused by torrential downpours across the Southeast pushed rivers and creeks over their banks.

For emergency personnel, conditions are extremely dangerous.

The worst may be over with raging tapering off Tuesday, but scattered showers are expected throughout the week.
