Bargain-hunters get an early start

Some bargain hunters have been shopping for hours already. They’re hoping to take advantage of some of the desperation being shown by retailers trying to get rid of merchandise after a gloomy sales season.
   
J.C. Penney even made wake-up calls to customers who signed upon line.
   
Sears stores are offering doorbuster deals through noon. Shoppers can get jeans for less than $10 or special financing on exercise equipment.Kmart is cutting in half prices on necessities and offering deals on seasonal decor. Toys R Us says it’s cutting prices by 60 percent on some brands the day after Christmas.
   
Other retailers such as Target are pushing online deals. Target is putting thousands of items on clearance and making them eligible for free shipping the day after Christmas.
