After enjoying a winter of cheap gas warmer weather has prices inching back up again.
There are a few things you can do to help save money on gas in these difficult economic times, and also help save the environment.
TIP #1: CHECK YOUR AIR FILTER
“You’re supposed to be able to see through it. If you hold it up into the sunlight and this is a brand new one, this is what they’re supposed to look like,“ explained mechanic Bob Masterson.
Masterson says a clean one could save at least a couple miles per gallon.
TIP #2: CHECK YOUR ALIGNMENT
AN IMPROPER ONE COULD REDUCE GAS MILEAGE BY AS MUCH AS 10 PERCENT.
Tip #3: GET A TUNE UP
It will lower both gas mileage and vehicle emissions.
TIP #4: FOCUSES ON YOUR TIRES
The higher the tire pressure, the better the gas mileage you get, but recommended pressure should not be exceeded.
Tip #5: TAKE A CLOSE LOOK AT YOUR GAS CAP
The cap should seal properly so the evaporation system will work properly.
Tip #6: LIGHTEN YOUR LOAD
The less weight your engine is having to pull, the more you’re saving on gasoline.
TIP #7: DRIVE RESPONSIBLY
GO SLOW AND STEADY, AND TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE.
TIP #8: DON’T IDLE
If you’re sitting still with the motor running, you’re wasting fuel.
