When you walk into a salon, you expect to leave looking better than you came in.  A Berkeley county salon specializes in going beyond that, also making you feel better than when you came in.  It’s an outward transformation that connects with the spirit.

The Essence of Glory Salon in Goose Creek is no ordinary salon.  Owner Tammy Rogers says, “Essence of Glory is a business that the Lord had put in my heart about ten years ago.“  Tammy worked in law enforcement in New York before being called to minister while fixing hair.  She changed her career 18 years ago to answer to a higher calling.  Rogers says, “This is my pulpit, where God allows me to give life to the hopeless, to encourage.“  She opened Essence of Glory Salon in October of last year.  Rogers says, “It was in my spirit.  I’ve been doing this for 18 years and it has never, ever, ever felt like a day of work to me, not one day.“ 

Rogers ministers to her clients, while making them look beautiful, one curl at a time.  Flora Gethers is one of Tammy’s customers.  Gethers says, “When I come in, I just feel welcome.  It’s an environment that’s very spiritual.  It’s always been a delight and I feel that when I leave I’ve been in an environment that really is a blessing, not just to make the outward appearance beautiful, but also the inward part of me beautiful.“  Many call it a beauty and spiritual makeover all rolled into one.  Gethers says, “You get a total make over, and treated as an individual, and not just a customer.“

Rogers says this business is a true blessing, “I can have not one client in my chair and be ok if I don’t make any money that day that doesn’t bother me.  But I feel so lost if someone does not come in for me to minister to, and when I do minster, it feels like I made a million dollars that day.“
