SC congressman shouts ‘you lie’ at Obama, later apologizes

As President Obama tried to assure a joint session of congress, and the nation that illegal immigrants would not be covered by his health plan, South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson yelled ‘you lie’.

The outburst came during the President’s pivotal speech on health care to a joint session of congress Wednesday night.

According to House rules, that is a violation, and immediately fellow Republicans began calling on Wilson to apologize.

The congressman issued the following statement late Wednesday night:

“This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the President’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill.  While I disagree with the President’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable.  I extend sincere apologies to the President for this lack of civility.”

Mewize now you are quoting scripture. Let's examine the positions of the religious right. Thr religious right is pro gun while over a 1000 citizens are killed by guns every year. The godless left is opposed to guns to stop the killing. The religious right is pro war. They bless their sons and daughters to go out to kill and be killed. The godless left is antiwar. The religious right is against Medicare and Social Security that give our seniors some chance to live in dignity. The godless left is for it. The religious right is against providing health care for all our citizens including children. The godless left is for it. The religious right is against giving food stamps to our poorest but for giving subsidiea to our richist. The godless left feels the opposite. So keep quoting scripture. But a better idea would be to read it and try to understand what it might mean to live by it. The religious right has turned the world upside down.

Funny, the Bible says you will know them by their fruit, and birds of a feather flock together. You can try to hide behind righteous indignation, but those who walk on coals are sure to have blisters on their feet. What part of 'thou shalt not steal' don't you understand?

News Boy there are 5 proposals for health care reform coming from committees not one. Four have been completed and the senate finace committee is yet to complete their's. The exact wording to exclude illegals is being worked on and when done should satisfy both parties. But like you said, it probably won't make any difference. No republicans votes anyway. The government normally does not compete with business. It steps in where business has failed or refuses to act. National Flood Insurance is one example. Senior citizens could not get health insurance they could afford if at all. The private market abandoned them. The government step in and started Medicare. While the Medicare isn't perfect, only 3% to 4% goes to adninistering the program compared to 20% to 30% for private insurance. The public option would be much the same. It would fill in a gap for people who private market will not insure or can't afford private insurance rates. It would especially help small businesses. With the public option people without employer health insurance would have a choice. If private insurance wants part of that market, they would have to compete for it. That could bring prices down. Now with little or now competition in almost all states, there is no reason for them to control costs. That is how the public option would help.

Mewize nice personal attack seeing you have no idea what my back ground is. Typical tea bagger. Yell first and think later. You could not disagree with my facts so you attack me. Seems to be a wingnut pattern. Do you go to school for that or does it come naturaly? I suppose we could have left the banks collapse putting 10's of millions of Americans out of work. We could let the auto industry collase . Does the sound of bread lines appeal to you? I personally prefer not living in a cardboard box. No one likes borrowing money, but at times it is necessary. The republican idea of more tax breaks for the rich would not put anyone to wrok. Bush's trillion dollar tax break for the rich is partly to blame for the problem we are in now. You can think of it as we are borrowing that money back. If you live in South Carolina you take more from th government then you give. South Carolina gets $1.30 from the feds for every dollar it gives. Pretty good return on investment. Without fed hand outs South Carolina would be like a third world nation. I think your bitting the hand that feeds you.

Charlestowne- I was referring to the 1,300+ page, actual legislation currently proposed in Congress. You are correct on one point… the Obama plan exist only by way of the speech this week where the President described attributes of a yet to be documented plan. However, if Democrats are steadfastly voting to prohibit verification of citizenship in the current legislation, I’m not sure what would change their stance in the Obama plan. You believe Republicans are deaf but can you answer one simple question… the “government option” is predicated on creating a government entity that would create and foster reduced cost, competition, and efficiencies… CAN YOU CITE ONE OR MORE INSTANCES WHERE GOVERNMENT AGENCIES HAVE CREATED COST SAVINGS OR EFFICIENCIES? We’re all ears and ready to listen!!!

Oh, I get where you are coming from. You are one of those womb to tomb liberals holding your hand out for the next government program and consider it a badge of honor. You like taking things that someone else made and calling them yours. You covet that which you don't have. I guess when someone else steals it and gives it to you, you consider yourself blameless. You think that you have a right to riches even if you come by it through a ring of thieves. Many of your ilk think like that but every time someone gets something they didn't earn, someone else earns something they didn't get; stealing is stealing and it's evil. Do you actually think you can borrow your way out of debt too? How could I have missed it? At the rate Obama is borrowing money to pay for your health, wealth, and happiness, he would have to give the eastern half of America to China just to pay it off, so I hope you are good at handling chop sticks...

Mewize if we take your position then social security and medicare are also unconstitutional as you have to pay into them. You will also argue income tax is also unconstitutional. Sorry , but your argumet doesnt fly. All that has been decided long ago. As for putting people out of work, your wrong again. One of the reasons the auto industry can't compete with Europe or Asia is the cost of health insurance. There health insurance costs are much lower giving them an advantage. Same is true with all our industries. Lowering the cost of health insurance would put more people to work. Killing our parents? Oh , you are a Sarah Palin follower. You have less sense than I gave you credit for. I bet besides being a deather and a tenther, you are also a birther. Are there any wingnut fringe stories you haven't bought? As Ernie Williams sang " I sold my my sole to the compnay store" The insurance companies own yours.

No one is forced to buy a car; so your position that we are required by law to buy safety equipment shows total ignorance. Unemployment and automobile insurace are a state-level requirements that are mandated at the federal level. It could easily be argued that coersion to make such purchases are unconstitutional as well but some socialists back in history managed to hoodwink people into thinking that someone from the government was doing them a favor. Half of America is out of work and Obama thinks it is a good time to put the other half on the unemployment line. Many companies are preparing to move elsewhere if this legislation passes, so who is going to pay for 'free' health care then? Oh, wait, they covered that in the plan; they get to withold medical attention from your parents so you can use your inheretance to pay for it... Great plan!

It really is hard to talk to the deaf dumb and blind. A valid social security number will be required to be eligible for insurance sold through this program. You are required to have auto insurance, have your car equipped with seat belts and air bags which you have to purchase. Your employer is required to purchase unemplyment insurance. There is a large number of things you are required to purchase. Health insurance would be one more. Mewize you are not required to purchase anything if you already have insurance. YOU CAN KEEP WHAT YOU HAVE. Open your ears and eyes. If you don't have insurance you will have a variety of policies to choose from. And seeing you haven't seen the products, how do you know you don't like it?
