Senator DeMint to face protesters at appearance in Myrtle Beach
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC)
South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint made it out of Monday’s Daniel Island town hall meeting relatively easy. It may not be the case Wednesday in Myrtle Beach.
According to former Georgetown County Democratic Party Chairman Jamie Sanderson, a group of Democratic political activists, progressives, and liberals are planning to protest DeMint’s appearance at the Horry County Republican Party Town Hall Luncheon.
According to DeMint’s website, he will be speaking at Rios Brazilian Restaurant at 11:30 a.m.
In an email sent to News 2, Tuesday morning, Sanderson says, “the protest is in response to DeMint’s stances on health care reform and his health care ‘freedom’ plan”.
“This state is not going to be portrayed as 100 percent anti-health reform. There are hundreds of thousands in this state who are jobless. They don’t have health care. They know the hurt, and realize the ER is not health care reform,“ says Sanderson.
The email also said, the protesters will consist mostly of people from Horry and Georgetown counties.
Senator DeMint held a town hall on Daniel Island Monday, in front of a mostly supportive crowd. There was a small group of people who respectfully protested DeMint’s stance in the back of the room.
The senator said after the meeting, the one thing about the current bill that he agrees with, is that reform is needed.
