Secrecy waiver deadline approaches for Governor Sanford
Published: October 26, 2009
Gov. Mark Sanford is facing a fast-approaching deadline to give the South Carolina Supreme Court more information over his waiver of confidentiality in a state ethics investigation.
Last week, the justices asked Sanford and attorneys for the State Ethics Commission for more information over whether the commission can release its report on the governor to state lawmakers.
Sanford’s deadline is 5 p.m. Monday. Attorneys for the commission have until Friday to respond.
Sanford waived confidentiality to the investigation. But the governor’s attorneys have argued that Sanford didn’t allow the release of all the information in the report, just the fact he was being investigated.
Associated Press investigations questioning the governor’s travel prompted the probe, which should be completed next month.
