Relief is on the way for thousands of unemployed South Carolina residents.
Gov. Mark Sanford plans to sign into law a measure on Thursday that will extend jobless benefits to workers who had begun running out of weekly state and federal help.
The measure Sanford’s office says he’ll approve at 11 a.m. ensures at least seven weeks of federal extended jobless benefits for South Carolina workers who already had begin losing weekly checks.
The Legislature made a needed change this week to ensure the benefits keep coming.
State Rep. Kenny Bingham of Cayce says workers who have missed checks will get them retroactively.
