School redesign plan to close five Charleston County Schools

Mcclellanville Middle School, Brentwood Middle School, Fraser Elementary School, Schroder Elementary, and Charlestowne Academy will close as part of the district’s redesign plan.

Dr. McGinley said the district must do whatever it can to make the system as efficient as possible during this economic crisis.

School leaders estimate next year’s budget shortfall to be $28M.

In addition charleston progressive stays open as k-6.  Seventh-8th graders attend home school.

Jane edwards stays open as k-6, 7th -8th graders attend Baptist Hill. 

District 23 and 1 keep rising sixth graders in elementary schools, Baptist Hill, Lincoln High Schools add 7th - 8th grades.

First of all I would to say I am sorry for those area that the schools are closing, and I know that this was not an easy decision for Dr. McGinley, but this something that is long over do.
