PACT scores to be released today

The state Education Department is releasing students’ scores on the now-extinct Palmetto Achievement Challenge Test.
South Carolina schools Superintendent Jim Rex will present the results during Wednesday’s state school board meeting.
The high-stakes standardized tests measure third- through eighth-graders’ performance in English, language arts, math, science and social studies.
A law passed earlier this year eliminated the PACT tests that students have taken since 1999. They will be replaced next spring by a new testing system meant to give teachers more detailed and timely information.
The results are used to determine how well schools and districts are progressing toward state and federal education accountability goals.
