Hurricane Workshop and Exercise July 30
Published: July 28, 2009
Another hurricane season is upon us and it is as important as ever to be prepared. The Chamber’s Business Continuity Planning Council will host “Hurricane Preparedness for Business” on Thursday, July 30. The workshop will open with remarks on the 20th Anniversary of Hurricane Hugo by Mayor Keith Summey. The event will continue with a tutorial on business continuity planning: what to think about when writing a plan and helpful resources. In addition, Rob Fowler, Chief Meteorologist for WCBD Channel 2 will lead attendees through an interactive exercise demonstrating the local landscape before, during and after a hurricane. Attendees will be given scenarios to talk through while Mr. Folwer and Cathy Haynes of the Charleston County Emergency Operations Center provide updates on how the public sector is responding. This exercise will give attendees a better understanding of how the public and private sector work together during a storm and provide the tools to write and refine their own business continuity plan.
You should attend if:
Your business does not have a business continuity plan.
You have business continuity plan and want to test it.
Businesses are encouraged to send multiple representatives. The exercise will split attendees into groups by job function (IT, Operations, Facilities, HR/Finance, Communications) so discussion is specific to like roles within a company.
