Clemson running back, quarterback honored with national awards

Clemson running back C.J. Spiller and quarterback Kyle Parker have both been honored by Rivals.com for their performances in Clemson’s 40-37 overtime victory at eighth ranked Miami (FL) on Saturday. 

Spiller was named National Player of the Week for his performance, while Parker was named National Freshman of the Week.
       
Spiller had a Clemson record 310 all-purpose yards, as he had 125 on three kickoff returns, 104 yards on six receptions and 81 yards on 14 rushing attempts.  He scored on a 90-yard kickoff return and a 56-yard pass from Parker.
       
Spiller’s 310 all-purpose yards tie for the most in a game by any player in FBS Division this year. 

Derrick Locke of Kentucky had 310 against Louisville on September 19 of this year.  Spiller’s performance broke the previous Clemson record of 282 yards by Justin Miller at Florida State in 2004.
       
Parker completed 25-37 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns.  It was the second best yardage and completion total in Clemson history for a freshman. 

Parker became just the third freshman quarterback to lead Clemson to a win over a top 25 team, just the second to do it on the road and the first to do it against a top 10 team.
