The Lowcountry DHEC office is getting swamped with calls for appointments to get the swine flu vaccination, but too many people who are ineligible are tying up the phone lines.

Here’s who can get the nasal spray vaccine which is out now: healthy people ages 2-24, people who work in health care related fields that are younger than 49, people who care for children younger than 6 months who are themselves younger than 49.

Who cannot: anyone older than 49, pregnant women, children younger than 2, people who are not health care workers or care for children younger than 6 months, people with chronic illnesses

Office hours to call for an appointment are 7am to 8pm Monday through Saturday. The phone number is 843 953 0090. Clinics will be held in 3 locations in the Tricounty area on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays by appointment only.

Everyone who is not eligible will have to wait until further instructions.
