What women voters want
What Women Want
what topics that women are interested in voiting forWhat will it take to win female voters. Women make up more than half of the nations voters and more than half of voters in South Carolina.
We’ve heard a lot this year about how women may change this election. First when Hillary Clinton was in the race and again when McCain announce Sara Palin as his running mate, but just how important do women see themselves in this election??
News Two caught up with women at a candidate forum Tuesday night, organized by the local League of Women Voters, to find out.
Betty Antiaboeng says women want the same thing all voters want, candidates that have solutions to their problems. She and others at the meeting say their top concern is the economy. And as a woman, she knows her vote has power.
“I would like to think regardless of gender it comes down to issues and the ability to the candidate to make those decision that represent the voting public,” added Charleston Chapter president, Lynn Greer.
“Women tend to look at what’s valuable for the family and the network at home and there are women who have family in the military are looking at what’s going to happen overseas,” Antiaboeng continued.
There are about 300,000 more female voters than men in South Carolina. According to “Women’s E-news” online, more women were registered to vote and did vote in 2004 than men.
The latest polls show that married women are almost evenly split between presidential candidates Barack Obama and republican John McCain.
However, there’s a big gap between unmarried women. Sixty percent are backing Obama, while 29 percent support McCain.
