A Summerville Cub Scout pack is scrambling to find money and police are investigating allegations that a scout’s parent stole nearly $14,000.

38 year old Wendy Thornbury is accused of taking the money from the bank account of Cub Scout Pack 759. Pack officials say Thornbury was working as a volunteer treasurer for the group, and her son was a member.

Thornbury worked at Carolina First Bank where the account was opened. The scouts raised the money as a part of their annual fundraiser, popcorn sales. The money is used for summer and day camps for the boys.

The group noticed there were problems when checks started bouncing. According to police reports, Thorbury told scouting leaders she would wire the money back into the account and never did.

Police reports say Thornbury may have used the money to enter her daughter into beauty pageants or trips to Florida for auditions for Walt Disney children’s shows.

Pack 759 hopes the community will come forward to help them raise money so the boys will not miss out on any of the activities they have worked so hard to attend.
