Vandals glue locks on nearly 70 King Street stores

Vandals struck overnight using superglue to damage the locks on close to 70 stores in Downtown Charleston’s historic shopping district on King Street.

The damage prevented store owners from opening on time for the rush of shoppers who are out looking for the best deals on Black Friday.

The owners of M. Dumas and Sons used a cinderblock to smash the front door so they would not lose any potential customers.

News 2 contacted the Charleston Police Department for official comment, but we have not received a call back at this point.

It is a real shame that the Charleston Police are not doing a better job of patrolling this area, but really what can you expect of Mayor Riley, he is to busy with trying to take over James Island instead making sure his police are protecting the people in his on city. I can not believe with this many business being hit and that the police did not see then, that just tells me that they are not patrolling like they should what were they doing hiding or sleeping some were.

I am employed by one of the businesses on King Street that was vandalized. All the local businesses are really hurting right now financially, and this just troubles me to no end.. This is not the first time our store has been vandalized either! I think the Charleston County Police need to do more to prevent this stuff, there is a huge problem with this type of thing downtown. I hope the scum who did this was caught on someone's security camera.
