Tropical Storm Fred forms in eastern Atlantic, no threat to United States
Tropical Storm Fred is located a few hundred miles south-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands and is moving toward the west at around 15 mph. This motion is expected to continue over the next day or so with a gradual turn to the northwest expected later this week.
Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph, and additional strengthening is expected.
At this time, Tropical Storm Fred is expected to turn harmlessly to the north and only be a concern to shipping.
